Currently the church in Osorno is led by a team of three leaders, all of whom have full-time jobs apart from the ministry. Christian Konow has an MA in missiology from Columbia Seminary; he currently manages a farm. David Fuentes is an engineer who has experience with YWAM. German Epple has a degree in agriculture and hopes to pursue MA in theology through Moody Theological Seminary. Along with them, over the past 2 years we have developed a wonderful team of people who are enthusiastic about this ministry and willing to give and work alongside.
The city of Osorno is in the southern part of Chile, a beautiful area also referred to as Northern Patagonia, which is home to pristine lakes and imposing volcanoes. It is a very divided, class-conscious city, with the overwhelming majority of churches situated in the more marginal neighborhoods, as is fairly typical in Chile. The people of Osorno are known for their work ethic, influenced by the many German agricultural settlers in the area, but also for being spiritually depressive. The global influence through the media has hit strongly, and the city is probably not too different from many modern cities elsewhere. Congregación Las Quemas “El Galpon” was started in December of 2014, being led by a core team of 3 men – David Fuentes, Christian Konow and German Epple. The church’s great desire is to reach out to those least evangelized in their city, to be a beacon of hope and joy and love in a needy society. Many of the people who the church reaches come from a nominally Catholic or nominally Lutheran spiritual background. Others come from an evangelical past of poor doctrine and confusion.
The church is currently praying for a full-time or part-time pastor for the congregation, as well as the finances to support such a family. Please join with them in praying for a pastor, as well as for encouragement and vision in the culture. They earnestly desire God’s direction for the future, and feel they have been so blessed to be part of this up until now!
